- Implementing the Rashtriya Gokul Mission, the Risk Management and Entrepreneural Development Programme under the National Livestock Mission
- Facilitating delivery of a vastly improved artificial insemination service at the farmers' door-step
- Faciltiating the strengthening of semen production stations,semend distribution units and Artificial Insemiantion Centers
- Facilitating breed improvement programme for indigenous cattle and buffalo breeds so as to improve their genetic qualities as well as their availability; and prevent the breeds from deterioration and extinction
- Facilitating the expansion of Artificial Insemination network.
- Facilitating Human Resource Development and capcity building through training
- Facilitating introduction and adopting of latest breeding technologies in cattle and buffaloes
The Cattle and Buffalo Breeding policy of the Tamilnadu
- Use Jersey semen for Jersey cattle and upgrading the nondescript animals or undefined breeds of cattle.
- Holstein Friesian bull semen is to be used for HF cattle and upgrading nondescript and undefined breeds of hilly areas.
- A part of the nondescripts would also be upgraded with Red Sindhi bulls' semen.
- The crossbreds (upgraded) are to be inseminated with semen from respective crossbreds bulls semen (i.e. Jersey cross semen for jersey crosses and HF cross semen for HF crosses.)
- All buffaloes are to be inseminated with Murrah bull semen. The Semen of the Native breeds' kangeyam and Umbalacheri are to be used on the respective breeds in their home tracts.
